Kim cương cắt kiểu asscher (hình vuông cắt góc) được anh em nhà Asscher, người Hà Lan, phát kiến lần đầu vào năm 1902, vào thời gian đó họ đã rất nổi tiếng vì đã cắt được viên kim cương thô lớn nhất thế giới ( viên Cullinan, 3,106 carats). Vào khoảng năm 2002, một trăm năm sau khi viên kim cương cát kiểu Asscher được tạo ra, hình dạng kim cương cắt kiểu Asscher lại bắt quay trở lại với rất nhiều sự thay đổi, khiến cho hình dạng của viên kim cương trở nên lấp lánh hơn so với kim cương căt kiểu Asscher truyền thống |
Kim cương cắt kiểu asscher tương tự với kiểm cắt chữ nhật xếp chồng, nhưng có dạng hình vuông với mặt xếp chồng rộng hơn, vương miện cao hơn, nhưng lại có mặt cắt nhỏ hơn. Sự kết hợp này tạo độ lấp lánh nhiều hơn so với kiểu cắt chữ nhật xếp chồng. Một viên kim cương cắt kiểu Asscher đạt tiêu chuẩn tốt sẽ xuất hiện một tâm hình vuông khi bạn nhìn xuông xuyên qua mặt cắt đó là do kết quả của việc xác định một cách phù hợp các cạnh phía dưới. Cũng giống với kiểu kim cương cắt mặt xếp chồng thì kim cương cắt kiểu Asscher cũng bị cắt ở các góc, các góc cắt này có tạo thành một viên kim cương hình bát giác. Sau khi đã được gắn kết lại thì viên kim cương vẫn duy trì được hình dáng độc đáo của nó trong dạng hình vuông độc đáo của viên kim cương vẫn được giữ lại.
